There's An Online Petition To Make Diana Bisexual In 'Wonder Woman' Sequel

In honor of Wonder Woman's DVD release and the kickoff of Bisexual Awareness Week, there's a petition going around asking Warner Brothers and DC to make Princess Diana bisexual in the forthcoming sequel.

If you're scratching your heads over the ask, it doesn't sound like an entirely farfetched demand, especially since Princess Diana’s pansexuality has been alluded to in DC comics. Just last year, Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka introduced a new character by the name of Kasia, who is suppose to be a female lover that Diana left after she entered Man's World.

"It's supposed to be paradise," Rucka told Comicosity of he Amazon homeland called Themyscira. "You're supposed to be able to live happily. You're supposed to be able… to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women. But an Amazon doesn't look at another Amazon and say, 'You're gay.' The concept doesn’t exist."

As for the petition, which was launched on Change.org by bisexual activist Gianna Collier-Pitts, the big question remains: "Why is it so hard to translate this for the silver screen?"

"The majority of the LGBTQ+ community identifies as bisexual or as having attraction to more than one gender, and yet it is the least understood of any identity. We are oversexualized and underrepresented. We are called greedy, dishonest, and confused," she wrote. "We are the least likely to come out and the most likely to suffer from depression and anxiety, on top of experiencing higher rates of sexual/intimate partner violence. We are made to feel invisible and in doing so we begin to see ourselves as invisible. Making Wonder Woman canonically bisexual on the big screen would make her the first openly LGBTQ superhero of any gender from either DC or Marvel's cinematic universes, and would solidify her place as a true role model for women of all ages and identities."
