Prince's Family Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Walgreens & Hospital

Prince's family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against pharmacy chain Walgreens and the Illinois hospital, Trinity Medical Center, where the late star was being treated before his death.

The legal documents were filed in Cook County, Illinois. The paperwork "alleges a doctor and pharmacist at Trinity Medical Center in Moline, Illinois, failed to appropriately treat and investigate Prince's April 15, 2016, overdose, and that he died 'as a direct and proximate cause of one or more ... deviations from the standards of care,'" USA Today reports.

The docs also claim that two pharmacists from Walgreens and the pharmacy company, overall, were "dispensing prescription medications not valid for a legitimate medical purpose." Neither Walgreens Co. nor Trinity Medical Center have responded to these allegations, as of yet.

Just last month, a more detailed toxicology report emerged and it said that Prince's fentanyl levels were "exceedingly high." Dr. Lewis Nelson said about the levels, "The amount in his blood is exceedingly high, even for somebody who is a chronic pain patient on fentanyl patches."

Authorities recently added that Prince might not have actually known that he was taking fentanyl pills. The star's medication was laced in counterfeit pills to make it appear like the generic version of Vicodin, a painkiller.
