‘The Golden Girls’ Is Returning With An All-Black Cast

The Golden Girls is returning with an all Black cast for a one-night charitable performance.

Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina King, Sanaa Lathan, and Alfre Woodard will star in the re-imagining of the hit 1980s series on Tuesday night (September 8) for a Zoom production as part of a series called “The Zoom Where it Happens.”

"In an effort to further engage our community and drive change, all you need to do to enjoy this evening is sign up to receive messages about how you can make a change during this election!," the sign-up page for the event reads. "This event is in partnership with Zoom, and the first episode is spotlighting and supporting Color of Change - the nation's largest online racial justice organization."

On Sunday (September 6), Ross announced the event on Instagram, captioning a six-second clip that shows the new casts' faces replacing the original cast. Based on her post, it looks like Ross be playing Rose, King will be playing Dorothy, Lathan will take on Blanche, and Woodard will be playing Sophia.

The Golden Girls aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992 and starred Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty.
